GlaxoSmithKline agreed to pay Louisiana $45 million to settle lawsuits accusing it of improperly marketing the diabetes drug Avandia and other drugs. Lawyers for the state and the company told a state district judge that Glaxo would also pay an additional $7 million to the private lawyers who handled the state's lawsuits against it. Cleo Fields, one of Glaxo's lawyers, said that it did not admit any wrongdoing and was settling to move past the case.
