ALBANY (AP) — A Florida pharmacy has pleaded guilty to a felony charge, a result of an investigation by an upstate New York prosecutor into online sales of steroids.
The pharmacy, Signature Compounding Pharmacy of Orlando, pleaded guilty to one count of fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and must pay fines of $100,000. The plea agreement clears the former operators of Signature of individual criminal charges.
Signature was raided in February 2007 after an investigation by Albany County's district attorney, P. David Soares. Over the next two years, 17 people pleaded guilty to drug and conspiracy counts in the investigation.
Mr. Soares maintained it was illegal in New York for a doctor to prescribe drugs without examining the patient in person and illegal for a pharmacy to dispense drugs without a valid prescription.
